Real lawyers discuss Sammy’s sentence. Good clear info but mostly old news, with one exception. The federal board decided to put Sammy in medium security rather than a Country Club Camp. These lawyers think the decision was more about protecting Sammy from his “victims”, not preventing escape.
Makes sense, given that his “victims” were mostly criminals. This was obvious from the LOCATION of his fraudulent “bank”. I have no sympathy for the criminals who chose to put their ill-gotten gains in a semi-legal tax shelter, but maybe a little sympathy for Sammy. The Wall Street criminals wouldn’t send a hitman. Some of the old-fashioned mafia types might.
A microscopic scrap of sympathy: Sammy is a professional criminal but he grew up in a sheltered and extremely privileged environment. He never encountered humans and certainly never worked with any humans in Wall Street. The governing class doesn’t need to engage in physical violence because they can always order the government to arrest and kill. Armies and FBI and DEA and SEC normally serve the governing class. Non-governing criminals aren’t able to delegate, so they have to learn the craft of DIY violence, which is constantly updated.
