Bloomberg clarifies the new change in the legal status of pot. This doesn’t make it legal at the federal level. The change allows it to be prescribed by “doctors”, but only if it’s approved by FDA, which is guaranteed not to approve it.

Neat backflip of the old Anslinger gambit which criminalized pot in the first place without technically criminalizing it. In the ’30s the old obsolete “constitution” occasionally received lip service. Repeal of alcohol prohibition took away the ATF’s reason for existence, so ATF had to find a new way to create and arrest gangsters and increase its budget. Anslinger made pot taxable like tobacco, but by some unknown mysterious coincidence the government didn’t happen to have any pot tax stamps on hand right now. Try again later, sucker.

BUT: Bloomberg says the new change is more than symbolic, because it does open the way for federally licensed banks to deal with pot businesses. This was a real barrier in the states that legalized it.
