A new feature that works!

The warm weather has opened my perception up just a bit, so I’m noticing things that faded into the background before.

I was looking at the features available on AOL Mail. I’ve always used inbox, spam, trash, and saved mail, and simply blindspotted the other choices. Today I noticed ‘subscriptions’. Huh? AOL isn’t like Substack.

In fact the ‘subscriptions’ tag shows all of the senders who have declared themselves as regular senders of spam. Each shows an icon for the sender, and each states the quantity of email it sends.

Some are extremely old, companies I dealt with in 2005 and never used again. (eg a DVD burning program for Windows 98.) And some are new and highly annoying, like the Trump campaign which happily boasts that it sends 35 emails per week.

I deleted the old and annoying ones, leaving only 10 companies that I currently want to hear from.

Few days later: Looked at the ‘sent’ section, and AOL automatically sent 27 unsubscribe messages to the senders I wanted to delete. Most of them worked, but not the Trump cult. I’ve tried before to unsubscribe from them manually, but the ‘unsubscribe’ button doesn’t even click. So I can’t blame AOL. Their automatic system works as far as it can!
