(Probably one of Adrian Koopersmith’s special days.)
The website says:
Think about the first album or singles you ever purchased. Listen to those recordings and think about what was going on in your life at the time. Do you still enjoy this music? How have your musical preferences changed over time? Can you follow the path from what you listened to then to what you listen to now?
Most likely the first record I bought was one of the Nonesuch baroque records, sometime around 1962. They had a special introductory deal for $1.00, and I spent my allowance to send away for it. This Youtube clip may be the same record, though I don’t remember the details.
How has my preference changed? Not much. Still baroque and renaissance. As I get older I can enjoy later Romantic music, especially the Brits and Swedes, but avant garde shit is still beyond the pale.
Nonesuch’s special intro deal was a great self-liquidating premium. One sample led to 62 years of repeats.
