YOLO vs hoarding

A pretty good article from the Telegraph.

Generation Z is known for being staid, puritan – even boring.

According to a July 2022 survey from livestreaming platform Keep Hush, Gen Z’s interest in clubbing has waned since the pandemic, with only 25pc expressing interest in going out. The number of young adults aged 18 to 34 who say they drink at all has decreased from 72pc to 62pc over two decades, according to Gallup.

The “virus” holocaust was a monstrous and deadly war, the FIRST TRUE WORLD WAR IN HISTORY, and it never properly ended. No VE Day, no Versailles, no Nuremberg. The holocaust remains in an uneasy stalemate, and everybody knows that the demons are still in power, waiting to get their rocks off again.

A similar thing happened after the 30s and 40s. Hard wars accompanied by hard economic times make people serious. The seriousness of the 1948 youngsters led to two decades of peace and prosperity, as workers demanded decent treatment and voters demanded nonaggression. GenZ seems to have the same hardass realism in both areas.

Wars, when NOT accompanied by economic hardship, do the opposite. For Americans, WW1 inspired the YOLO atmosphere of speakeasies and flappers. Vietnam inspired the frivolity of the ’60s. Imminent draft board callups + good jobs + low cost of living = Have fun while you can.
