I listen to writers who agree with reality at points where I can check. Mattingly always fits at the points I can check, so I listen to him on other matters.
In this podcast he’s discussing the (admittedly small) turmoil inside the Southern Baptists. Above all Baptists are NOT hierarchical. They disagree on many things but they agree on avoiding popes and bishops and centralized creeds.
Mattingly observes that some Baptists are leaving, but they’re not heading leftward. They’re not turning into Episcopalians or Disciples. Instead, they’re going toward higher quality services in non-denominational Protestant groups.
Ping! The “liberal” tendency of the Disciples is not widely known. I attended Phillips, a Disciples-owned school, where the “liberal” tendency was obvious.
Higher quality is a sharp observation. When people are not confused by advertising or “experts”, they will move toward the higher quality product, the better experience.
Economists and official experts smash this normal preference. Only price matters in economics. That’s how we shipped our entire economy to China, losing the quality of our own products and the quality of our own skills. Economists told us that low price would make things better. They’re right in a treasonous way. Low price makes things better for Soros and Fink and Bezos, and it makes things better for Chinese workers. It makes life SHIT for Americans.
