Vintage.es has pix of Rome in 1955. Everything in the scenes is absolutely unquestionably Italy. Can’t be anywhere else. The buildings and people are instantly recognizable and the cars are ALL Fiats. No Kraut invaders or Yank occupiers. My attention was initially grabbed by the 3rd pic with a Topolino panel truck, and the 6th with a Topolino station wagon. Both inexpressibly cute, and remniscent of our Bantam panel and Bantam wagon.
The most distinctive of all is pic 4, with an unalterably Italian woman carrying a huge unbalanced wooden basket of food on her head. No hands needed, just casually strolling down the street.
As “free trade” destroyed the world, all distinctions disappeared. All is a gray mass of identical inanimate colorless objects.
Admittedly, Fiat got the best end of globalism, now owning many US and Euro carmakers.
The people of Free-Trade countries are therefore driven into the few occupations which are left, by reason of the destruction of their formerly more varied pursuits. Hence those diversified talents with which men are endowed are not developed but remain latent and unused, an incalculable detriment to the prosperity of their respective countries.
