Quick polls and other measures of real support show an abrupt shift toward D after Harris definitely became the candidate.
This makes sense from my own perspective. I gave up on the two teams a long time ago. Until 2020 I was just not interested in “voting” at all. After 2020 I became a strictly precisely permanently ONE-ISSUE voter.
Torture or not? Waterboarding or not? Imprisonment or not? Strangulation or not? Other questions are insignificant by comparison.
While near-dead Biden was one side, I didn’t see much reason to regain interest. Trump was utterly out of the question. He deserves Nuremberg. He was not only a torturer but a joyful servant of Wall Street and Deepstate, enriching the rich by the trillions and killing the poor by the millions.
The D side was marginally less bad. They allowed the waterboarding to lapse and showed some real action against Wall Street. But it was clear that Biden wouldn’t last, and it was possible that Newsom could be the replacement. Newsom is worse than Trump by a factor of 10. Still no tilt.
Now the D side tilts toward positive because Harris as P makes Newsom impossible by the same-state rule.
Most other cynics are not one-issue voters, but their balance might have changed in the same way. While Trump and Biden were the choices, both were equally horrible and unmentionable. Wild energetic devil vs nearly dead devil. Harris now offers a live alternative with some record of action against the banks when she was AG of California.
Later: Reason mag gives a more consequential reason for choosing Harris, based on her known record. Reason hates her because as Calif AG she was pro-police. Reason hates civilization and order and life. The cop-haters were Libertarians long before they included Democrats, and Repooflicans went with the Libertarians before they fakely decided to talk the other way.
