One part of local and state government is still fully functional. The wildland firefighting system responds FAST when things go bad, places crews on the ground and water-dropping planes in the air, in an organized and productive way. Last night a fire started near the cemetery on the west side of the river. Planes were roaring overhead for several hours, and they got it knocked down.
GOOD WORK.
Most recent fires are started by homeless camps. This one isn’t known yet, but there are camps in that area. Dismantling the camps would reduce the fires significantly. The ordinary causes, like railroad hot boxes and tossed cigarettes and intentional arson, would remain. Several of last year’s big fires were arson.
