I try to keep track of the “news” that DOESN’T appear. The noisemakers in “congress” have been playing their idiot “shutdown” game for the last two weeks, and NOBODY noticed. Neither “side” of the media bothered to treat the noise as real.
“Congress” has been totally pointless for at least 40 years. Pure noise, no action, no consequence. Until now the media played along with the noise, treating it as real debate or something.

If politicians have any purpose at all, they should be problem-solvers.
Most organized structures have three steps, which I’ll define in terms of politics, jobs, novels and operas.
(1) Tell us what you’re going to do. (Campaign, advertise, preface, overture.)
(2) Do it. (Solve problem, make something, dialog, arias.)
(3) Tell us what you did. (Tax, invoice, conclusion, finale.)
Politicians are stuck in step (1), campaigning. Most of the time they don’t even tell us what their product can do for us; they just insult and mock other politicians. That’s not even good advertising, let alone meaningful action.
