As usual we have dozens of overdoses every day, some fatal.
There are two responses. Dark humor and caring. Dark humor is winning, as more and more people realize that caring is a fraud. Media and rulers want us to CARE about everything so they can feed our caring with solutions that make things worse.
Cynical humor comes from the REALISTIC understanding that we have no control over the problem. Caring is meant to help solve, but it’s a pointless exercise because the leaders know exactly what they’re doing.
Parkinson. A solved problem means less money and power for the media and agencies. An increasing problem means more money and power for the media and agencies.
The real solution for this problem is economic, not governmental or charitable. When business seeks PROFIT, it wants loyal customers and loyal employees. You get loyal customers by providing quality products. You get loyal employees by paying them and treating them right.
Henry Ford, the ultimate cynic, gave us the answer. Pay the workers enough to buy the cars they make.
He also shortened work hours so the employees could have time to live decent lives with the better money. He realized that a decent life causes contentment with the job, while a desperate life causes workers to leave for better jobs.
To some extent the economic solution is already available. Skilled trades pay very well, and companies are looking for men to fill those jobs. Young men are quickly realizing where the work is, and skipping college to train for those jobs.
FDR speeded up the solution by providing government-paid training and work via WPA and CCC. This accomplished two things: (1) Trained the workers with real PAID experience, not just school fueled by debt. (2) Kept the workers off the job market so employers had to compete harder to get them back. As long as the workers were starving, companies could pay a pittance.
