Indirect salute

Old folks have trouble with a slow-moving gut. Normally I can keep things going well enough with good diet and walks. The long hot summer messed with the diet and walks, and then a series of closely spaced difficult dental appointments built up tension to the point of definite constipation.

I tried lots of different things, always expecting instant results and giving up when nothing seemed to be happening RIGHT NOW. Finally I called Kaiser Permanente and talked to an older MD who clearly understood the whole anxious patient, not just the symptom. He advised heavy doses of Miralax for a few days to get things soft, followed by tapering off. Mainly he advised PATIENCE, and his casual attitude modeled patience. Things change SLOWLY in the gut. Adaptation takes a few days, not a few minutes.

Amazingly I followed the program, slowed down to resonate with the gut, and returned to elderly “normal” this week, assisted by cooler weather and the end of the stresses.

So it’s time to salute the Product. I’m really saluting the Kaiser doctor who showed that PROPER old-fashioned healing isn’t obsolete yet!
