Mechanical is better

A passionate defense of informal justice by Michael Moore:

= = = = = START QUOTE:

Yes, I condemn murder, and that’s why I condemn America’s broken, vile, rapacious, bloodthirsty, unethical, immoral health care industry and I condemn every one of the CEOs who are in charge of it and I condemn every politician who takes their money and keeps this system going instead of tearing it up, ripping it apart, and throwing it all away. We need to replace this system with something sane, something caring and loving — something that keeps people alive.

= = = = = END QUOTE.

Moore misses the point of government and profit.

Government works best when it is MECHANICAL, not caring and loving.

When bureaucrats care, they care for billionaires. I’ve been pointing out for years that Repooflicans want to eliminate the best parts of government, the MECHANICAL parts like the Post Office and IRS and Social Security. Those are the parts that function automatically, handling millions of people and billions of checks. The FBI and CIA and Pentagon CARE DEEPLY about the welfare of a few particular people and one particular country (NOT this country). They make PASSIONATE decisions to ruin everyone they HATE, which includes most Americans.

Insurance should also be MECHANICAL and uncaring. It should pay every expense covered by its contract. Bad insurance companies spend tremendous effort on BREAKING their own rules and contracts because they LOVE their CEOs.

If constitutions and laws mean anything at all, they must be applied MECHANICALLY. That’s the whole fucking point of “rule by law” which no longer exists.

Laws and insurance policies can make real compassion part of the mechanism. Another point I’ve been hammering for years is the DIFFERENCE between professional criminals and incidental lawbreakers. Well-designed laws penalize the professionals most heavily. When you keep the worst 10% in jail, 90% of the crime is gone, which gives the rest of society the luxury of security, leaving room to understand the lawbreaker who is starving or stuck in an untenable situation. When laws refuse to DISTINGUISH between MECHANICAL categories of people, most folks and small businesses are desperately trying to survive in a ferocious jungle, and they don’t have time or energy left for looseness.

NORMAL PEOPLE WANT SECURITY, CRIMINALS WANT FREEDOM.
