Our conventional view of the past is 100% wrong in every way. Everything we learned in school and media is violently wrong, either by giant omissions or perfect falsehoods.
This is true in tech and industry as well as politics and economics. Our conventional history of every invention and industry is wrong.
One tiny but typical example is the high-wheeler bicycle. Every movie and cartoon and story about the 1890s tells us authoritatively that all bicycles were those weird unusable deadly circus freaks. Real pictures of city streets from that era show a considerable number of ordinary equal-wheeled bikes and NO high-wheelers.
Here’s a picture of Topeka newspaper boys with their bikes in 1900. All normal bikes, though most are a tad large for the boys.
