Closely related to previous item about Y2K. A couple days ago I received an email about a class-action settlement for authors who have royalty arrangements with the NYC publisher I was using during the relevant years. Not the same as my publisher in 2000, and not the same as my current publisher, though I’m still getting some leftover residuals from the NYC publisher.
The announcement doesn’t specify a percentage of royalties, so I don’t know how much would actually be due. Every author will get at least a minimum of $25 without taking any special action. Those who want to sue individually for more would have to opt out of the class first. I didn’t have a problem with the royalty percentage, but I did feel shorted one year when the publisher paid several months late because they were being LBO’d by JPMorgan. So a token bonus will be welcome as natural justice.

Update 5/30/25: Got an actual check for this class action after forgetting about it. The check is for $124, better than a nominal token.
