Pew has a counterintuitive survey about news influencers.
The result: ‘News Influencers’ are a lot more balanced than we think. Most of them treated Harris and Trump evenly. The specifically partisan Influencers do fit our stereotype, but partisans are NOT the majority of Influencers.
Pew defines a News Influencer as one person, not representing an organization or company, who writes often about current affairs and politics on social media, and has more than 100k followers. Seems like a rational definition, though I can’t judge whether 100k is the best threshold. It might exclude a category that would be included by a somewhat lower threshold.
I trust Pew. They have a firm record of objectivity and transparency. I don’t doubt the validity of the result. Until now I thought independents and mainliners were ALL perfectly partisan. Apparently I’m not seeing the less partisan independents.
