Back to Lessing

In October I switched from bus to taxis. At that point the laziness was necessary. After a series of hard dental sessions and bad weather I had built up an overanxious and overstressed condition, with bad balance, constipation and lots of weird little anxiety symptoms. The balance trouble made it nearly impossible to stand steadily while waiting for the bus, and hard to get off the bus.

Thanks to the knowledge base of the Anxiety Centre, I knew that recovery would take several months, but it couldn’t proceed until I eliminated the most dangerous stresses.

Constipation was easy to solve, thanks to good advice from a Kaiser doctor and thanks to Miralax. Other parts had to be gradual. The weird little symptoms disappeared first. By January the balance was back to non-dangerous levels, and I probably could have returned at that point, but inertia had taken over. Soon the taxi started to be less reliable, which provided the external force to overcome inertia. The same sequence happened last winter, with less justification for the hibernation and a much shorter rest time.

On Monday I pulled the switch and resumed the bus habit. Not the easiest day, with zero degrees and considerable ice on the streets, but it’s always best to do the hard part first.

Back to hardass mode!

Lessing Blessing: When you’re meant to do it, do it NOW. Conditions are always impossible.

Starting at the hardest time and succeeding develops more confidence. We’re meant to deal with impossible conditions, meant to get it done. That’s the definition of life.
