Not a citizen

A couple weeks ago I detailed a Zillow listing in Manhattan that closely resembled the house my family occupied from 1957 to 1962.

In bed tonight as a sheep-counting exercise I tried enumerating the neighbors I remember in those two blocks. Somewhat geographically:

Adams, fireman.
Matthews, city engineer.
Danskin, prof of counseling.
(Unknown name), Ft Riley officer.
Goodnow, founder of Manhattan**
Our house, prof of psychology.
Deines, prof of engineering.
Long, profs of English.
Jack, manager of radio station.
Anderson, farmer**
Walker, prof of music.
Socolofsky, prof of history.
Sesler, insurance agent.
Lawrence, Jewel Tea sales.
Lancaster, Ft Riley officer.
Shannon, prof of history.
Rosebraugh, prof of engineering.
Howat, insurance agent.
Chelikowsky, prof of geology.

18 excluding our house. Not bad for 5 years.

** Anderson and Goodnow weren’t inside the two blocks of the subdivision; both lived on the other side of the street in their original farmhouses after selling part of their land to the subdivision.

For comparison, how many neighbors do I know here in Spokane, after living in the same house for 35 years? Two, and one of them moved out last month.
