Elon is cutting vast amounts of federal bureaucracy, or at least attempting to do it. He has no official role, so courts would be fully justified in rejecting all of his cuts.
SYLLOGISM.
FIRST PREMISE: We know that Elon will never cut war or tyranny, the only federal FUNCTIONS that need to be eliminated. He gets paid to make war and tyranny. Agencies that pay Elon grow, agencies that don’t pay Elon go.
He will only cut a mix of useful and trivial agencies. We know with deadly certainty that he will cut the useful ones like IRS, Post Office and Social Security.
SECOND PREMISE: Parkinson guarantees that large numbers of bureaucrats are doing nothing useful. Bureaucracies grow whether functional or not. Seems like it should be a good idea to eliminate the useless ones.
SOLUTION: There’s a better way, and as always FDR found it. He didn’t eliminate any federal jobs, because government jobs are secure and people need secure employment. He redirected the marginally useful bureaucracies to SERVE THE PEOPLE, to help the rest of the economy return to secure employment.
Bureaucrats have special skills. They know how to maneuver around legislatures, media, and other bureaucrats to get shit done. If they are not doing useful work, USE THEIR SKILLS to accomplish good things instead of trivial things. I expect most of them were happier to be serving the people, since they probably started out with an idealistic attitude.
