One of those belated nonbark realizations….
I was thinking about the arrangements of school years. When I was a kid we had elementary 1-6, junior high 7-9, and high school 10-12. This was a fairly new setup. Before WW2 junior high was rare. Primary was 1-8 and secondary was 9-12. Secondary was optional, about like college now. Lots of kids stopped after primary.
Now most schools have adopted a setup closer to the original, with middle school 6-8 and high school 9-12.
In high school we didn’t use the numbers. We were sophomores, juniors and seniors. The grade numbers only appeared on schedules and report cards.
Wait! Where were the freshmen? They were at the junior high, but they weren’t called freshmen. I never noticed the nonbark, never asked the question.
