Headline at Bloomberg: Constitutional test of Elon’s authority

You don’t need a constitution to figure this out, which is fortunate since we haven’t had a constitution since 1803.

A government, like a corporation, is a structured organization. Employees must take orders from the chief executive, or from managers appointed by or through the executive. Chain of command is well-defined. Employees DON’T NEED to take orders from an outsider, no matter how important or rich.

Here’s the key: A family business is different. A traditional family farm or family store is owned by Grandpa or Son or Daughter. Employees know who’s the Boss. They take orders from the Boss, no matter who is listed as CEO.

Cromwells Printing in Enid, my first job, was a family business. Old Lee was nominally the president, but everyone (including Old Lee) knew that his hardass sister Mary was IN CHARGE.

The post-1970 tech firms are family businesses run by the founder. They have corporate structures and boards and nominal presidents, but everyone knows that Gates or Zuck or Jobs or Elon is The Boss.

Elon is running USA in tech style. The real question is why he has Grandpa or Founder authority when he isn’t Grandpa or Founder or anything. He’s just a rich dude who decided to run the place.

Later: This item at Protos about Trump signing the order for the idiotic Bitcoin Strategic Reserve starts to cast a different light on Trump, maybe more like Old Lee.

= = = = START PROTOS:

Despite announcing an executive order authorizing the US Treasury and Commerce Secretaries to buy bitcoin, Trump appeared to struggle to fully comprehend the text in front of him. After Sacks verbally summarized the order, Trump asked him to clarify, “And this is something you believe in fully?” Sacks assured him, “100%.”

“Alright,” Trump continued. “And we made the promise, right?” Sacks responded consolingly, “Absolutely.”

The elderly celebrity is controlled by his handlers, serving as a figurehead for what the handlers want. Bob Hope and Groucho Marx were famous examples. The picture was crystal clear with Biden, now it may be partly valid for Trump.
