Some commentators are taking the Carney victory as a time to start agitating for independence for the prairie provinces. Bad idea.
When you’re the mouse fighting a hostile psychopathic cat, you need all the force you can muster.
Workers vs corporations are the easiest example. One worker at a time has no chance of gaining decent working conditions. When workers band together in a union, the union can gather enough money and lobbying power to fight the corporation.
Another example is US “medical” care. The patient has little chance against monopolistic hospitals charging 100 times what a procedure should cost. You need to have an insurance company on your side for sufficient bullypower.
Canada has finally started playing the mouse game properly. Use your own resources and unique skills instead of offshoring. Trudeau and Carney are trying to bring back Canada’s previous economic independence, making things in Canada and trading across the country instead of southward to benefit the cat. When you are mining, farming, making, buying, and selling in a CLOSED LOOP, you don’t need inputs from elsewhere.
Breaking up the closed loop will make each province MUCH easier for Trump to pick off and destroy.
