More pointless bitching.

Today is pointless bitching day.

I’m tired of being ORDERED to listen to all sides.

First, it’s futile. People naturally seek encouragement and respect, NOT contempt and disgust.

Second, it’s bad business. Persuaders of all sorts know that you can’t keep customers by hammering them with opposition. You have to start with pleasure and improvement. If you want them to think about your viewpoint, you have to start and end by RESPECTING their own life and viewpoint. And the RESPECT must be fully genuine. In a totally distrusting world, people are HIGHLY TUNED to the slightest hint of fakery or dishonesty. If you’re only playing a game, we will see it, and we will run away even faster than we’d run from honest opposition.

Doesn’t matter if you’re selling cars or soap or newspapers. Start with RESPECT, not contempt. Don’t pull a bait-and-switch. Show the alternative fairly and honestly, immersed in a SOLID atmosphere of TOTAL RESPECT.

The Fairness Doctrine forced broadcasters to behave this way, and they were HIGHLY PROFITABLE while they behaved this way. They started to decline after the Doctrine was repealed, BECAUSE they started spitting on the audience.
