Math pope

Prevost is a Villanova grad with a major in math.

This could make him a somewhat more significant figure for nerd types.

A math pope would prescribe csc as the cure for sin. When sin goes to zero, csc ascends to heaven.

He would give absolution as the cure for negative feelings.

An inner product adds, but a cross product multiplies.

I’m only 0.5 joking here; the connection gives me a sense of correlation. Serious=1.0, there’s a whole lot of math in Roman doctrine. Trinity, transubstantiation, the double-entry bookkeeping of penances.

And serious>1.0, all of the early mathematicians, ESPECIALLY THE ISLAMIC ONES, used math as a tool to understand the will of God. Algebra restores our equilibrium, our proper two-way connection with God.

After 1400 the Christian part of Europe began reading the Islamic mathematicians and scientists, and followed the same track.

The 1700 Endarkenment violently smashed the scales and balances, transforming the world to a pure one-way flow into the tax-sheltered bank accounts and mansions of the robber barons. No more algebra or feedback, just pure theft. Computers can’t do algebra. Computers do to numbers what robber barons do to lives and property.

The French Terrorists of 1789 snatched up science and math and turned them into anti-God weapons of war and torture. Christian scientists like Chappe and Lavoisier were destroyed.

A math pope gives me hope. Perhaps God wants him to assist the Foy Rebellion, the practical and religious rebalancing of life after the terrorists got bored.

Update: He’s doing it! In Prevost’s inaugural speech he marks out AI as the main threat to human dignity, and says that traditional Catholic economics (based on Natural Law like sharia and FDR economics) offers an alternative. He chose the name Leo as a congruent angle to a previous Leo who supported unions and workers in the First Gilded Age. He’s exactly right in defining AI as the prime enemy, not because of its “soulless” quality but because it’s owned and operated by the devils of the Tech world whose mission is identical to the 1880s robber barons. Eliminate all jobs, gobble up all money and power for the Almighty Sam and the Almighty Elon.

Ted Gioia made the same observation in different language, coming from the music and literary world instead of the math and science world. Gioia calls it the new romanticism.

Seems like a smart tactical move by the elector cardinals, even a machiavelllian move. Bergoglio was solidly opposed to Natural Law and humanism. He was all in with Gaia and Woke, which placed him on the SAME side as Wall Street and Tech. The math pope, pushing against the front lines of Sam and Elon, may be able to split the enemy’s forces. The nascent rebellion, call it Foy or Romantic or Analog, had no top-level friends until now, so there was no bullypower on our side.
