I’m not shocked

Bloomberg is shocked by China’s tech progress.

I’m not shocked. I saw how it happened. China thinks about its own people and serves its own country. China has long-term plans. China owns its corporations, so the corporations work for China.

In the 80s China was sending thousands of students to OUR universities and research facilities, paying them to learn from US. I worked with them. They were quite candid about their purposes.

We loved it and encouraged it because “our” corporations do not work for us. “Our” corporations work for Elon and Jeff and Mark and Larry. “Our” corporations ruin our people and destroy our jobs to make Elon and Jeff and Mark and Larry infinitely rich.

This may not have been true in prehistoric times. I’ve heard rumors, and I’ve even tried to decipher some ancient scrolls and cave paintings, which seem to imply that our corporations formerly behaved more like Chinese corporations. They weren’t state-owned, but apparently Neanderthal subhumans had peculiar things called lews or lows or lams or something. (The scrolls are blurry.) These lews or lows or lams were endorsed or unhorsed or something by peculiar priesthoods called urgencies or apenzees, which somehow told the corporations to do unthinkably weird Neanderthal things. The corporations obeyed the lews or lows or lams. They somehow built factories here, and got American men to work in those factories, by rewarding the men with another peculiar Neanderthal artifact called moony or nunny, which the cave paintings depict as flat green things. I can’t understand any of this; I’m just trying to cite what I can manage to read from the ancient scrolls and paintings.

Variation on old Soviet joke.

Chinese guy: “We’re different. In China our companies work for China.”

American guy: “No, we’re alike. Our companies also work for China.”
