Seen in a meme: People who speak two languages have a special magic.

Bilingualism looks magic to those of us who have been raised in a prescriptive system with only one way of doing things. Most people in most countries in most time periods naturally speak two or three languages, function in two or three different classes and tasks, measure in many ways depending on the task. Where several languages are not available, we naturally speak several dialects. England before the Endarkenment functioned properly. Peasants spoke French or Latin or English according to situation, performed different jobs with different measurements and different currencies, wore different names according to function.

We are multi-tasking machines, designed at all levels to perform different ways in different situations. The body has separate nervous and circulatory systems for separate modes. The brain forms momentary networks among its parts for each function. It wires words in the English way when hearing English, in the Latin way when hearing Latin.

The Endarkenment broke our multitasker. No modularity, no alternate functions. All variables are global, all learning is prescriptive, all must be initialized and prescribed by one master controller. We must all speak the same way and spell the same way and measure the same way and do the same tiny piece of one job thousands of times per day. We learn prescriptive grammar and prescriptive science and prescriptive history.

Wokesters are trying to break out of global variables and restore modularity. Wokesters want to bring back modular science, modular math, modular history. Our “rights” mongers hate the wokesters because “rights” are designed by billionaires to serve billionaires. Many of the wokies have been coopted as Agents Provocateurs, preaching the most distorted version of their message to make the good parts distasteful.

Populists are trying to do the same thing at other levels, trying to bring back separate countries and separate provinces. Again many (eg Bryan and Trump) are working as APs, making the message look horrible.
