Dems are holding a “science fair” to show off some projects canceled by Trump and Elon.
Dammit, protesting doesn’t help. You should be FUNDING THE SCIENTISTS instead of showing them off. You have billionaires on your side who are allegedly pro-science. Get them to set up a new system of aristocratic patronage.
Most of the GOOD science before the Deepstate coup of 1946 was funded by patrons or industry or Mutual Benefit Associations or crowdfunds. The March of Dimes was a crowdfund with government endorsement.
Also dammit, you never protested or showed off when Dems in congress canceled federal grants. Pork-busting was a bipartisan game, first started by Dem Proxmire of Wisconsin.
But if they do try to crowdfund, they’ll run into an obstacle created by the atrocious tenure system. Back in 2013 I offered to crowdfund a chemist who had developed a better solution to the alleged problem of phosphate in lakes. Spokane spent $200 million, partly EPA money but mostly local taxes, to build a massive network of big ditches, allegedly to slow down a few parts per million of phosphate that was helping algae to grow in the downstream lakes. Eliminating the algae would eliminate an important CONSUMER of CO2, so the whole project would actually INCREASE CO2 if it worked, which it wouldn’t anyway. It was just symbolic, a hugely expensive and destructive prayer to Gaia.
The scientist didn’t WANT the crowdfunding because he wasn’t really interested in getting his work done. He only wanted the prestige of a grant. I was frustrated but can’t blame him. Been there, done that. The fucking tenure system is solely about prestige, not getting shit done.
