Mexico is getting SERIOUS about implementing the New Deal. I haven’t been looking much at other countries; somebody on Substack mentioned it. I googled it and found very little coverage in any US “news” sources; it was discussed in a few tech insider publications. The protections were signed into law last month after a year of gradual development.
Mexico requires Uber and other gig employers to treat all workers as regular wage employees, with health insurance, paid vacations, minimum wage, etc. There are other requirements on digital platforms like Twitter.
The only non-insider US mention came from “web freedom” fraudsters who are upset at the “restriction of liberty”. Fuck that shit.
GOVERNMENT’S FIRST DUTY IS TO PROTECT NORMAL PEOPLE FROM CRIMINALS, REGARDLESS OF THE WEAPON USED. GUNS AND SPREADSHEETS AND LLMS ARE EQUIVALENT WHEN USED BY CRIMINALS.

This seems to be the best article. The law distinguishes between workers expected to work fulltime like Uber and call centers, vs “creatives” who connect occasionally to the digital employer for submitting or editing. The latter will still be contract workers. This distinction was traditional and well understood before the web. Authors worked in their own place and time, only required to submit the finished product on schedule. Fulltime employment was intentionally confused and conflated by the Tech Tyrants.
