Canadians are working together to develop a newly designed nation. They’re doing it both officially and personally.
It’s a fine thing to watch. MANY countries have been forced to develop their own best skills when we blockaded them. We pulled the same nasty trick on Cuba in 1960, Persia in 1980, and Russia in 2000. We’re about 5 years late with Canada judging by the previous arithmetic sequence!
This is normal US behavior, with one long exception. We’ve been pulling this trick since 1812, except from Harding through FDR and then during Ike. Those 5 leaders were NOT imperialists. They were content to act like civilized nations. Harding and FDR made a point of being civilized and often laid out the philosophy in speeches. The others were more passive but still avoided bombing and blockading other countries or parts of this country.
And this isn’t the first time we’ve tried it with Canada. Lincoln’s secy of state Seward tried to work up an invasion of Canada after Lincoln finished invading and destroying part of the US. Most of the power structure had their hands full occupying and stealing what was left of Dixie, so they didn’t have much energy for a new invasion.
Trump is a normal US leader, more energetic than others. In 2020 he repeated Lincoln’s crime of bombing and blockading THIS country, in a far more widespread way. Now he’s returning to the standard crime of making unprovoked attacks on foreign countries. Putting it another way, Trump is Lincoln on meth.
