Reddit is trying to build a direct access search engine, making itself an alternative to Google. The management noticed that people search Reddit via Google when they want to find human discussion of a topic instead of AI or carefully filtered and edited content. I’ve done it often. You need to be aware of the nature of Redditors: online people, usually young and ‘hipster’, often OCD or somewhat autistic, prone to excessive detail. After adjusting those variables you can get useful perspective.
The groups devoted to specific trades or employers have a broader personality range. They’re more like lodges or unions, with inside jokes, local jargon, complaints about customers and managers, praise for customers and managers. A good cross section.
