Carney has proposed a major reform to criminal law.
First, the law would make it harder for crime-loving “prosecutors” to release criminals on recognizance. The new law would switch the default preference from release to hold. A prosecutor would have to show specific proof that the criminal wouldn’t be a danger.
If the US had a similar change of proof, we’d have a LOT less crime. In blue states the crime-loving “prosecutors” automatically release criminals after a brief coffee break, and the criminals simply resume their normal work of beating and stealing and setting fires.
Second, the new law would require sentencing for several charges to be consecutive, not concurrent. The Canadian “supreme” “court” recently banned consecutive sentences. In this country, though consecutive isn’t banned, Sorosian “judges” give concurrent sentences on the rare occasions when they even bother to sentence. A long series of crimes can result in a very short sentence.
HABITUAL CRIMINALS ARE THE PROBLEM.
If professionals can be kept in jail for a long time, the vast majority of crime will disappear.
Third, it would increase penalties for retail theft, a recent favorite of crime organizations. I don’t know anything about this, so can’t say whether it’s important or not.
I’m not sure the law would be hard enough on fraud. There’s a pattern in the cases publicized by the Postal Inspectors. Several major fraudsters were operating in Canada with US victims. When the US authorities asked Canada to help prosecute, Canada refused. The US authorities had to wait until the criminal took a vacation in a country that was more willing to report his presence.
