Most sources seem to be missing the best explanation of last week’s Louvre job. They think the thieves will melt down the gold and diamonds to sell the raw materials. Highly unlikely. Diamonds like these are well documented and recognizable. The amount of gold isn’t enough to justify the expense and risk of the job. Professional criminals judge risk quantitatively, just as an honest tradesman knows how much to charge for each type of job. There are much easier ways to steal valuable metal with near-zero risk. Copper is everywhere, not documented or traceable.

Bloomberg has the better explanation. Tech tyrants like Bezos and Altman, especially the less public Tech Tyrants in the bitcoin world, don’t seek monetary value. They already have all the money in the world. Their dick-measuring competition now focuses on acquiring unique objects. Tech Tyrants don’t appreciate beauty or culture. Those concepts do not exist in the mind of a psychopath. A Tech Tyrant MUST be the SOLE OWNER OF THE UNIVERSE. If there is anything in the universe that anybody values for any reason, a Tech Tyrant MUST prevent other Tech Tyrants from owning it. Bitcoin billionaires specialize in hiring ordinary criminals to steal from competitors.
