When my skin started doing weird things this summer I went to the doctor several times, got two different diagnoses and a variety of different pills and creams. Eventually I decided that it fits the description of eczema, and the usual recommendations for eczema seem to handle it better than the special prescriptions. Controlling stress is the most important fix for ALL conditions. Repeated doctor appointments and repeated changes of blood pressure medication were strong stressors.
During all the changes I started noticing where each medicine was made. Most of the prescriptions are made in China or India, like every fucking thing. Nothing at all is made in USA.
There are two notable exceptions. The lotion I’ve been using on feet for many years is only available through European sources, and it’s made in Monaco!
This makes sense. USA is a tiny city-state with no businesses except casinos, so you can understand why USA can’t make complicated things like lotions. Monaco is a giant country with a tremendous range of resources and skills, so it’s easy to see why Monaco can manufacture anything it wants.
Hmm. Did I switch those two countries? No.
A more positive surprise is Cetaphil, the brand that seems to work best on eczema. Cetaphil is made in Canada! Looking it up, the factory is in Montreal. Corporate headquarters is in Fort Worth where the company originated. So it’s technically a US company, but I only care about factories where real workers make real products.
