Random thought on my endlessly repeated theme. I was writing this as a comment elsewhere, then decided to write it here instead. The bolded part seems like a new way of phrasing the WINNING combination.
None of our idiot politicians can REMEMBER their own best example, the most electable president in history, the only president who was elected 4 times and could have gone 4 more if he hadn’t died.
In economics he was a Soviet socialist.
In culture he was laissez-faire.
His own cultural heritage was maximally elite, descended from 300 years of super-rich New Yorkers. But his administration kept its dainty NYC hands OFF the rest of the country, especially farmers and Southerners who are accustomed to New Yorkers burning their cities and stealing their land.
WPA trained farmers to preserve the LOCAL soil with LOCAL plants. WPA employed writers to document LOCAL traditions. It didn’t tell anyone to support Broadway or Hollywood. CCC built parks and monuments to commemorate LOCAL heroes and places. It didn’t build monuments to JP Morgan or reproductions of Times Square.
The New Deal implemented Carver’s ideals and goals.
START WHERE YOU ARE.
WORK WITH WHAT YOU HAVE.
MAKE SOMETHING OF IT.
