After one week with this new Win 11 computer, I’ve managed to work around SOME of the stupid shit, but it’s still a worse machine in every way than the old Win 7 computer. Every program starts slower, runs slower, and places more obstacles in my path.
Linux is not the answer. My most important graphics tools will NOT run under Linux. Others have tried them and reported failure. I might try moving the HD from the old computer and setting the new system to boot in W7. I might be able to transfer W7 to the new HD at that point, but online info seems to advise against it.
Later thought after looking again for more info on using Linux with graphics progs: The Linux crowd makes the same mistake as all mainline institutions, while claiming to be the home of individuality. Anyone who questions the Divine Supreme Will Of Linus Torvalds Hallowed Be His Eternal Name is instantly consigned to hellfire. Linus Torvalds is the universe. Linus created all that exists.
Aside from the idolatry, I should be an ideal Unix/Linux customer. I’m thoroughly comfortable with command lines, and still use the command line often in Windows. I’m accustomed to low-level fiddling. I want a PERSONAL computer that stands on its own without constant forced updates and surveillance.
If you want more people to join your church or party or operating system, follow the old rules of sales. Listen to customers who SHOULD like the product but aren’t happy with some aspect. Try to accommodate those SHOULD-be customers. Don’t insult them or kick them out of the store.
