Unexpected wisdom

JuicyEcumenism summarizes how various churches are responding to Altman. Most are fucking stupid and self-destructive. The smart one surprised me!

Dumb #1: Catholic. The new pope sounded good until he backslid into the same old shit. Here’s the official doctrine at the moment:

= = = = = START DUMB:

AI’s intelligence is understood functionally and measured by its ability to produce appropriate responses. In contrast, human intelligence encompasses the entirety of a person, pertaining to how the whole person engages with reality by the full scope of one’s being: spiritual, cognitive, embodied, and relational. … The Church sees potential for great good through the use of AI as well as great risks, warning of specific boons and dangers in each sector.

= = = = = END DUMB.

Usual crap about The Human Person, whatever the fuck that means. Massive theft has no “potential for great good”, unless you want to rewrite the whole Bible including the 7th Commandment.

New Roman Version: Thou shalt not steal unless thou ownest all the gold.

Dumb #2, Eastern Orthodox:

= = = = = START DUMB:

Artificial intelligence has immense potential for positive transformation in environmental protection, education, and healthcare. However, it also contains massive risks, from invasions of privacy to rising inequalities and possible compromise of institutions.

= = = = = END DUMB.

Those areas need transformation for sure, but AI is utterly irrelevant. The only transformation we need in “environmental protection” is a full halt.

Dumb #3: mainline Lutherans:

= = = = = START DUMB:

…Emphasizing concerns on the difficulties of properly regulating rapidly developing technology. It primarily looks to potential advances in science, healthcare, and defense, as well as automating tedious processes.

= = = = = END DUMB.

Other mainliners take the same idiotic approach, thinking Altman will work miracles as long as we can “regulate” him in unspecified and impossible ways. YOU CAN’T REGULATE A BILLIONAIRE WHO OWNS THE GOVERNMENT. All of them use the word potential, ignoring the ACTUAL crimes and sins of Altman.

Here’s the genuine surprise. Episcopals, normally the worst idiots of all, recognize the crimes on the INPUT side, not the potential on the OUTPUT side.

= = = = = START SMART:

Create a Task Force on Artificial Intelligence (AI) … with expertise in a variety of disciplines especially artificial intelligence (AI), liturgy, and ethics.

The Task Force is mandated with considering the relationship of The Episcopal Church with generative AI, including but not limited to:

The use of generative AI in writing and preparing sermons and liturgies;

The use of generative AI in hiring;

The use of generative AI in writing theological and academic works;

The use and potential misuse of The Episcopal Church’s copyrighted materials; and

Investigation of best practices with regard to generative AI from various sources, including other Christian denominations and nonprofit organizations;

= = = = = END SMART.

Good job, Piskies! I’m amazed.

BIG POINT: If Altman has to PAY for everything he steals, plus annual royalties for continued use, his business can’t be profitable.

Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need.
