Somebody on substack said “People think traveling for work is glamorous.” … then showed some of the unglamorous places she traveled to.
I never thought it was glamorous. Back in the 70s I traveled for work, mainly driving a 1955 Ford flatbed truck, and went to faraway places with strange-sounding names like Meade and Goltry.

Many elevators are abandoned now, which might make them glamorous in some sense. These two were clearly still operating when Google took the picture.
Goltry has one slight claim to glamor. This bank building, which used to have more of a downtown around it, was used in the 1973 Dillinger movie. Surprisingly it’s still a bank, though the second floor has been removed.

Note that the Google camera caught a man in the same position as one of the gangsters in the movie. He’s carrying the modern point-and-shoot device.
Note also that Goltry, pop 250 and fading, built a wheelchair ramp and a fucking curb bumpout to get federal funds for street repaving. Goltry doesn’t have pedestrians and just barely has businesses. Nobody walks in Okie small towns. They had to hire lawyers and Compliance Consultants just to get some asphalt.
