Not new at all.

The vast majority of headlines in sciency websites are clickbait. Half of them are ads or promotions. Others are “Study suggests A could cause B”. Wake me when you prove causation by a controlled experiment**, not by stats. Some headlines are simply rebranding an old thing as new or rebranding a universal as a particular.

Via RealClear, this old-new rebranding is especially dumb. The Army is considering “3d-printed food” for field rations. Some soldiers are reportedly uncomfortable with the idea.

If you’ve ever been in a real kitchen, you know that food has always been 3d-printed. Hamburger is extruded. Pie crusts are often laid out with a spiral or rectangular extrusion. Cookies, candy, pasta, cake decorations and espresso decorations are extruded artistically.

**Another article on the same RealClear page is a rare genuine controlled experiment. Twin studies are the ONLY valid experiment for human characteristics. Everything else is a waste of time. This twin study proves that longevity is mostly in the genes. Starting from your genetic baseline you can live somewhat longer by doing the right things, but the right things are only part of the story.
