Tale of two alternatives

I’m pushing against two computer-related frustrations right now. One is the Kafkan rules of ADA, and the other is the Deepstate spying and molasses sludginess of Windows 11.

Windows has a built-in screen reader but it’s rather weak and not widely used. NVDA is the most common alternative. NVDA is shaped BY and FOR blind people. NVDA’s developers are a small community, yet they’ve managed to make it work with a variety of computer systems, a variety of disabilities, and a variety of tactile devices.

Linux is supposedly the alternative to the spying and slowdowns of Win 11. Linux’s developers are a VASTLY larger community with VASTLY greater resources, yet Linux stubbornly refuses to work with graphics AT ALL. The Linux fans constantly berate people who stick with Windows, but won’t do shit to make Linux useful for anything besides text and hacking.
