Wow, that’s unimpressive.

Yesterday I was noticing some “instant animation” by one of Altman’s drug sellers.

First thought: Wow, that’s impressive!

Second thought: Wait. 3d programs like Poser and Blender could do that sort of thing a long time ago. And I was writing Python programs to automate those moves 20 years ago. Natural facial expressions, syncing with speech, natural body moves, stereo sound locating with the figure. The big difference is that the new AI takes commands in regular English, while my programs took commands from a data list.

I’m still using Poser for my own play and work, but I stopped participating in forums in 2021. When the newer versions switched to subscription mode I pulled out fast.

Tonight I got an email from a familiar name in those forums, not one of my ‘acquaintances’. He has redone one of my old programs to work in the newer versions, using a coder AI to make the changes. He asked if I would want to distribute it, since it was my property. I told him to go ahead and distribute it, crediting me as the pre-modification author. He agreed.

Unlike the monsters in charge, he’s doing the right thing, taking the proper moral and legal path. Giving credit, asking consent, letting the original author distribute if he wants.

Must admit it feels good to receive evidence that my old stuff is still being used!
