As fucking usual the Democrats are cheering that we finally have an income tax. As even more fucking usual the unspeakably monstrous Repooflicans are roaring GOD HATES TAXES and GIVE BEZOS ZERO TAX OR GIVE ME DEATH. Superbrainless activist Tim Eyman** is limbering up his senile unbrain for yet another pointless crusade, yet another pointless “referendum”.
The whole thing is fake on every level.
First, Washington already has an income tax under a different name. The Business and Occupations tax is a corporate income tax that also covers individual contractors. Last year it was revised to add more tax on certain types of software contractors, and also require them to pay sales tax. NEEDLESS TO SAY, THE RULES CAREFULLY EXCLUDE EVERYTHING RELATED TO AMAZON AND MICROSOFT. I can’t afford accountants and lawyers, so I’ve put in a question to the tax department asking them to untangle the weirdly complex language and give me a simple yes or no. So far no response.
Second, millionaires NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER pay taxes to any level of government. Real millionaires will spend huge amounts of money on accountants and lawyers to guarantee that they don’t have to spend one dollar on basic services for everyone else. They spend even more to buy legislatures and “laws”. We can be 100% sure that this latest fake “law” is carefully crafted by Bezos and Gates to exempt every possible branch and twig of Bezos and Gates.

** Tim Eyman has been running this racket for at least 30 years. At first I assumed he was working for the billionaires and casinos. Now his routine is so tired that I doubt they’d want his counterproductive clown act. Maybe both sides are paying him to keep the fake conflict running.
Broader rambling: I remember when this state had competent governors. Christine Gregoire and Gary Locke, both Democrats, genuinely tried to serve the people. Inslee took over from Gregoire in 2012 and immediately started ruining things. Before 2020 he ruined us by burning the forests to serve Gaia. In 2020 Trump gave him a license for infinite orgasms, and he fucked us hard and deep for three endless years.
Was Inslee the driving variable? I doubt it. Another big change happened around 2010-2012. That’s when Bezos snatched the reins from Microsoft and Boeing. Previously the state was balanced between two giant corporations with different goals, leading to negotiations and compromise. Now monster Bezos has a total monopoly.
