Parody was prophecy

Reddit’s stupid computer tricks section often shows Google AI answers like this:

No, Cleopatra did not live in sand dunes. As the Queen of Egypt, Cleopatra VII lived in luxurious royal palaces located in the13516515151515151515….. [looped on 15 forever]

This reminds me of a VERY OLD parody of our Robot Overlords. From the era of Mad Magazine and Stan Freberg. Maybe one of Stan’s routines? Maybe a Twilight Zone episode?

The Robot Overlord is giving a cheerful optimistic speech like this month’s commencement addresses. Suddenly his speech locks up in a record-skipping loop, familiar to everyone in the 50s.

I WILL CREATE UTOPIA. I WILL KILL ALL NEGATIVE EXTERNALITIES. YOU ARE NEGATIVE EXTERNALITIES. YOU WILL LOVE MY WONDERFUL UTO/TO/TO/TO/TO/TO/TO/TO/TO…..

= = = = =

Irrelevant sidenote. These infinite loops insult the programming craft. Real programmers learn early and hard to GUARANTEE loop ends. We never use recursion. If a while-loop is waiting for an external input like a keystroke, it must have a time limit.
