Why they fail

Via Nieman. A husband and wife spent 10 years building up a children’s story hour broadcast on WBUR, the educational station of Boston University. They’re leaving after a decade of frustration. Repeatedly the university refused to give them what they needed, even though their program was a major revenue source for the station. The couple set up a ‘club’ to engage the fans, with awards and stuffed toys and such. The university insisted on handling all the sales, then didn’t handle them.

I’ve seen the same thing on a smaller scale when I worked for universities. At Penn State I was building electronic gadgets for engineering projects. I tried doing it the right way, going through management to get purchase orders for parts. The local stores wouldn’t accept the purchase orders because the university never paid its bills. So I bought parts from my own pocket.

University failure has nothing to do with Woke or Trump. It’s just Parkinson. Univ admins lost their compass a LONG time ago. More likely they never had a compass in the first place, judging by Anderson’s Manifesto in 1874. Admins do not work for students or teachers. They work for donors and grantors, and they slavishly follow fashions and trends.
