We had an ordinary windstorm yesterday, hardly worth calling a storm. Three hours of winds around 10g35. It didn’t cause any power outages, didn’t knock down any trees. The Weather Bureau gave out a Red Flag Warning because conditions in trees and brush are ripe for fast fire spread.
Avista did its part in preparing, turning off power in one high-altitude area that always gets the worst gusts. There were no fires in that area.
A large area on the east side of town was devastated, including several homes.
There were a few small fires elsewhere, all near known homeless camps. These small fires were controlled quickly. Good work, firefighters!
We can be fairly sure that homeless campfires caused all of these fires. It’s possible that homeless arsonists are at work again, as they were last summer. One of last summer’s arsonists was eventually imprisoned, but the others were instantly released.

Modest proposal:
Avista prepares because it can be sued for not preparing. Why can’t we sue demonic “cities” and murderous “states” for intentionally creating the conditions of crime, fires and disease? The “city” has been MAINTAINING the bums, giving them free food and money and medical care, reviving them when they overdose a dozen times a day. (Non-bums have to pay thousands for each ambulance trip, and can’t get reimbursed by insurance.) The “city” has blocked efforts to move the bums elsewhere, strongly encouraging them to congregate in places where they can cause maximum damage.
