Life in the cracks (honorary)

I’ll declare today Honorary Life in the Cracks Day, though it’s not the real thing..

I make the same storetrip every Monday and wait for the bus in the same places on each end, so I have time to look closely at houses, plants and cars. The weekly interval lets me calibrate changes.

Google Streets obliged with a fine picture of this Tree In The Cracks, taken last August. I think it’s an oak, not a conifer or a generic weed. It has bark and oak-style leaves.

The house is a rental with sparse lawn maintenance, presumably by the landlord’s low-budget landscapers. The trees and grass were rampant earlier this year, then finally chopped down in April. Since April this tree has grown from zero to the same size as the picture.

Three feet in two months, in a highly inhospitable location, with heavy foot traffic and no extra watering.
