For a long time I’ve suspected that WordPress’s own stat counter is missing something. Google’s internal stats for the OLD Blogspot blog have consistently shown a few real reads along with the underbrush of AI bots. In some cases those reads must have been clicking through from a link I’d given here, but WordPress didn’t show anything happening here.
Decided to try turning on Google Analytics for this blog. Google counts internal reads by default, so the first day was full of my writes and edits and checks.
Here’s how the Google AI “analyzed” this sudden increase in action:
Analytics didn’t notice that Analytics had been TURNED ON. It treated the 250000% increase in activity as an invasion from mysterious alien sources.
Later I told the machine to exclude this URL. Not clear that the message has worked.
