Second try

At this point in the season, all the lilacs and roses have done their job. They start in May and finish in mid-June. Suddenly the rose next to the front door decided to send up a few new blooms. Maybe it’s because I’ve been watering the yard consistently this year?

In any case I’ll take it as a little reward from the universe, since I’m sure as fuck not getting any rewards from humans.

More random nature rambling. Social media is generally slammed for its broadcast tendencies. Everyone talks at once and everyone is trying to talk to the universe. This is certainly not how humans normally communicate, but it IS how birds normally communicate. Each bird tries to find the best and tallest tree, and broadcasts its memes to a half-mile radius. Birds also have a private mode, murmuring to mate or youngsters.

I start from the hypothesis that humans are mammal + bird. We share bipedal posture, tool usage, music and speech with birds. Other mammals don’t do those things routinely. Some can walk on back legs when needed but they’re not built for it. Given this assumption, social media is a recapture of our broadcast gene. It fulfills a part of our purpose that was mostly ignored before, except for appointed broadcasters like actors, preachers and town criers.
