Inverting Duane Jones

One basic rule of salesmanship has been inverted.

When you’re currently dealing with a company or buying their products, they don’t send you any offers and don’t seem to want your business.

When you haven’t bought anything for many years, or never bought anything at all, you’ll keep getting offers for updates and new products.

The current record holder is Advanced Installer. The last time I bought from them was 2012. In 2013 my courseware went online and I didn’t need an installer. (I would have preferred to keep the program in Windows, where interactive animation is much more powerful, but Cengage insisted on moving it to HTML.) Advanced has been announcing new updates every month for 14 years, despite a complete lack of response.

Today Advanced Installer proudly announced Version 24, including (naturally) a new AI assistant.

I’m not mad at Advanced. They’re doing the right thing! I’m sad that I don’t have a good reason to buy from them.
