These fuckers need to be in jail for life. Classic Professional Criminals, supremely confident, arrogant and greedy.
A gang of about 20 yoots got to know each other online and formed a bitcoin crime gang called the SE Enterprise (Social Engineering). They followed all the basic rules of congames and pulled in well over $250 million in real money from a dozen victims. The gang was organized: Leader, accountant, hackers, social engineers, and a real old-fashioned burglar. They located thousands of potential victims who were stupid enough to “keep” money in bitcoin “exchanges”. I can’t begin to sympathize with the victims. Bitcoin is clearly criminal. (Another basic rule of congames.) If you’re putting your money into a crime, you CAN’T BE SURPRISED when it becomes part of another crime, and you’ll hesitate to report the theft.
The scammers sent out notifications that the “exchanges” were being hacked, and then posed as cybersecurity specialists for the “exchanges”. Classic fake detective game. The detectives talked the victims into revealing their passwords, and the hackers then emptied the accounts. In some cases the victim kept the info in a separate harddrive or USB, so the old-fashioned burglar broke in and fetched it.
As usual with pro criminals, the yoots ran wild, buying dozens of luxury houses and luxury cars and spending $500k a night in nightclubs, plus hundreds of luxury clothing items, mainly Louis Vuitton.
I CAN’T BEGIN TO UNDERSTAND EXTRAVAGANCE. JUST ONE OF THOSE CLUB NIGHTS WOULD BE 5 YEARS OF COMFORTABLE LIVING FOR NORMAL PEOPLE.
The AP article and the commenters in Buttcoin didn’t notice the bonus at the end of the court document: signed by Jeanine Ferris Pirro, attorney.
