Excellent reporting.

The Spokesman has been doing an OUTSTANDING job on the arson epidemic. Today’s edition includes several long articles on the pattern here, the mind of serial arsonists, and the lack of proper laws.

This map (scanned from print edition) tells most of the story. It’s only the city limits; many of the big fires in the last few years, including Farinacci’s masterpiece, were west of the city limits within walking distance of the Catholic Criminalities apartments. I’ve circled the CC apts in red, and marked Farinacci’s start with an X.

With a few exceptions, this map is ALSO a picture of the homeless population. There are a few scattered usual-cause fires in the north-central and far southwest.

Many fire and law enforcement officials point to homeless people as a cause for many of the brush fires.

“It’s heavily related to the homeless population,” said Spokane Fire Capt. Lee Venning, a fire investigator. “So, a lot of these fires are either escaped campfires during burn bans or we’ve seen some stuff that looks like they’re trying to burn each other out of camps.”

But it’s more than that, they acknowledged. “We have quite a bit of fire starters here and I don’t know what the motivation is,” Sanders said.

A sudden rise in 2024 corresponds to the advent of Polymarket and Kalshi. Last year’s Palisades fire in Calif was preceded by specific bets. Locally it also corresponds to the change of mayor, though the “government” didn’t abruptly shift direction. It’s been consistently crazy for MANY years through mayors of both “parties”.

Sad, mad, bad: Some of the arsonists, including last year’s champion Chad Horne, appear to be reserving a room in jail to get better security and medical care. In other words, they are SMARTER than the “city” dysgovernment, which insists that jail “violates” “rights”. Some arsonists are just innately loony or innately criminal.

The motivation doesn’t matter. Proper use of prison would solve the problem from all angles. For the sad, a year in jail can break a drug habit and give you pride and skills. The mad and bad need to be jailed PERMANENTLY to protect civilization.
